The Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948 provides for certain benefits to employees in case of sickness, maternity and employment injury and also makes provisions for certain other matters in relation thereto. The ESI Act is applicable to all factories and other establishments wherein 10 or more persons are employed. The existing wage limit for coverage under the Act effective from 01.01.2017 is Rs.21,000/- per month. The rates are revised from time to time. Currently, the employee's contribution rate (w.e.f. 01.07.2019) is 0.75% of the wages and that of employer's is 3.25% of the wages paid/payable. One IP, One Insurance Number, One Nation. An employee shall have only One ESI Insurance Number in his/her lifetime irrespective of number of change of employment or Employer. 2. Register Employees online within 10 days from the date of appointment. 3. Contribution must be deposited within the due date. Contribution cannot be made online after 42 days from the end date of the contribution period.
